Garakmadilla Raja Maha Wihara
Matale

The Āvāsa Gedara (monks' residence) at Garankadila Raja Maha Viharaya was designed with deep respect for the temple's historic character, which dates back to the era of King Valagamba. Rather than introducing a contemporary structure that would appear visually disconnected, the design carefully responds to the existing architectural language, preserving the temple's cultural and spiritual identity. Inspired by the traditional forms, materials, and craftsmanship of Sri Lankan temple architecture, the design incorporates open, tranquil spaces, warm timber textures, and handcrafted details to create a calm and contemplative environment for the Maha Sangha.
